Internet for the learning purposes

The Internet has and always will be an integral part of our everyday lives. Whether we are teachers, journalist, business professionals, or students the internet will always be something to turn to and make used of some argue that the internet can be very harmful and even dangerous but I believe it is just the matter of knowing how to use it. Making use of the Internet has its benefits. Teachers and students alike should learn to use the Internet as supplement to learning. This will solve the problem of those who do not want to rely solely on the Internet for everything.

The Internet can be used in the classroom in many ways.  It can be used to create digital and interactive activities for the students to participate in; either individually or in groups.  It can also be used as educational games for students in a variety of subjects like Math, Science, English, Filipino, etc.   It can also be used to expose students to e-books.  All this could provide unconventional but still very useful and effective ways of learning. 

The Internet can be a very good aid to learners and even educators if used the right way.  We are privileged to have “free” access to relevant and up-to-date information at our fingertips and at our disposal; that makes it our job to maximize that.  Let’s put the internet to good use and make it work to our advantage.

Why Education Technology is important in teaching?

            Whether we like it or not, technology has become a major part of our daily activities.  It has been designed in such a way that if individuals, especially teachers want to further expand and enhance their teaching skill, they will have to be well versed with today’s technology. Yes, there is a big difference in being familiar with technology of the past and the fast-growing advancements of today. 

            There are always two sides of a coin.  One group would always see that technology is a plus; something extremely helpful and beneficial while the other group would say to veer away from using any and all sorts of technology.  There is truth on both sides; and as teachers, it is our duty to discern the pros and cons of each side.

            First of all, I have nothing against the use of technology.  In fact, I am all for it, especially since we live in the 21^st century – the very era of technology.  We should always find new ways of using it to supplementing our field of work.  We should use it to supplement what and how we teach. 

            What we do need to remember though is that we should be masters over the technology and be careful not to allow ourselves to being enslaved by them; not being able to move or function without them. 

            The second most important thing is that we should always have a plan B, C, D… all the way till plan Z.  There will be times when our technology will fail, bog down, or malfunction.  So we should always have something prepared up our sleeves.

            Technology can be very favorable to both the teacher and the students if used appropriately. It can be very helpful to make activities more vivid, hands-on, interactive, fun and interesting.

            Using technology for kids makes lessons more doable especially for the teachers that are not really particular and skilled with drawing and sketching.  There are certain concepts that teachers would love to include but are limited with the skill of their fine-motor skills. Technology makes it a lot easier and captures the essence that the teachers want to present very accurately.  It also provides variety for the kids; especially in the younger age gap because it is something new and different on their end. 

Let us make the most of what is available.  We have unlimited resources at our disposal; let’s not allow for them to go to waste.  As teachers, there are endless possibilities to our teaching styles, approaches, classroom management techniques, content and substance.  And that is the beauty of teaching.  Anything is possible and all those things can be made beautiful and unique with the aid of technology.

All in all, technology is important in teaching.  We just have to be discerning of the situation and what it demands.  We also need to find the balance of both; find that thin line in between and make it work for you not the other way around.

It is our job to fight against computer illiteracy.  Let’s increase our knowledge about technology so we can really hone its capabilities.  There is a lot of potential in it; all we have to do is exert time and effort. And you will see that in the long run, it will be worthwhile.
